Do you remember, not to long ago when Laser Jet printers could only be found in your workplace if your company would spring for the extra expense. Well today it is much different. Laser jet printers are so affordable today that there is no reason you shouldn’t have one instead of the old ink Jet Printer you hate so much. Unless of course you like waiting 5 minutes for a page to print and you like changing the Ink Cartridges every couple of weeks. It’s time to get your own laser jet printer.
Laser jet printers don’t use the typical small ink cartridges that you find in the Ink Jet printers. They use a toner cartridge. A toner cartridge is not actually ink. It utilizes a technology that heats the magnetic particles and binds it to the page with a charge. This allows for much faster printing and less chance of smearing when the pages come out of the printer. This also allows for a much larger reservoir of particles so you can print a lot more pages than you would on a typical ink jet printer.
The prices of laser jet printers have come down dramatically in the last several years. You can now get a Very Good HP Laser Printer without color for about $100 compared to a good ink jet printer without color for around $75. With such a small difference in price you get so much more speed with the laser jet printers. Below is a typical comparison between the ink jet printer and the Laserjet Printer
Typical toner cartridge - $40-$70
Page Yield - 2,500-3,500 pages
Average cost per page – 1.5-2 cents per page
Typical Inkjet Cartridge - $15-$25
Page yield - 350-500 pages
Average cost per page - 3-6 cents per page
The above example assumes that you are not printing graphics but only text. Generally speaking you will pay at least twice as much to use an Inkjet Printer as opposed to using a laser jet printer. The cost savings over time will more than makeup for the initial cost of the toner cartridge not to mention the time you save by not having to wait for it to print.
There are also laser jet printers that print in color using the same concept as the laser jet printers that only print in black. These are more expensive but for the same reasons stated above they will save you both time and money in the long run. It’s time to get rid of that old ink jet printer and get yourself one of the new laser jet printers.
